Carbon Fibre designs for stairs from your dreams

EeStairs realises Geoff Packer’s Carbon Fibre stair and his DNA stair for exhibitions in Lisbon and London.

The Dutch company EeStairs has realised two striking designs by the British staircase designer Geoff Packer. These designs are now on view in the Science Museum in London and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lissabon.

Carbon Fibre stair

The exhibition ‘Fast Forward: 20 ways F1™ is changing our world’ in the Science Museum in London presents 20 innovative applications of the high tech Formula 1 technology in our daily life.
The Carbon Fibre stair makes its debut in the Fast Forward exhibition.

The stairs of the Carbon Fibre staircase are made of carbon fibre, which makes them ultra light and incredibly strong.

The stairs are 4 mm thin and entirely self-supporting. Because of the transparent glass balustrade, the staircase seems to be floating in the space. The exhibition can be visited until 5 April 2010; entry is free.

DNA stair

The travelling exhibition ‘Darwin’s Evolution’ about Darwin’s theory of evolution was organised to mark the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin. The exhibition started in Lisbon in February 2009. The DNA stair plays a pivotal role in this exhibition.
Inspired by the whimsical forms of the DNA profile, the newel of the staircase is a four-metre-high spiral between the two flights. The DNA profile is a tribute to the views of Darwin, who based his theory on natural selection. This sculptural double spiral is the playful centrepiece of the exhibition: children can climb it and come down along the slide. ‘Darwin’s Evolution' in the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon can be visited until 24 May 2009.
