Upon the northern coastline of Long Island, NY, EeStairs has provided several staircases for a summer home that neighbors the well-known Hamptons. This dwelling required a double flight staircase to service the three interior levels as well as an exterior staircase to service the secluded roof top terrace.
While working with the architects at Roger Ferris + Partners LLC, the main staircase was redesigned from its original U-shaped double stringer design to an L-shaped floating staircase. The result has a very simplistic modern appearance, as well as a mysterious effect due to its hidden hardware within the treads.
The interior stairs are 3-¼” thick oak treads suspended from a hidden steel stringer within the wall. The glass balustrade, with a stainless steel cap rail, ties the complete system together to form a well-supported and structurally sound “floating” stair. This design provides the illusion that the treads protrude through the glass balustrade. However, the outside cap is actually a section that is cut from the end of the tread so that the grain is continuous from the tread to the cap.
The exterior staircases are steel double stringers, galvanized and painted, with garapa decking material for treads. The balustrades are a horizontal rod system that is galvanized and painted to match the stringers.
The EeCrew is very proud of the completed outcome of this spectacular staircase project.
