Waikiki Shopping Plaza

Working with MGA Architecture and Nordic PCL Construction, EeStairs has completed three spectacular staircases, located in the Waikiki Shopping Plaza.

Allowing access to ground level and basement of the shopping mall, two staircases are on either side of an escalator as you enter from the main entrance, and one sweeping staircase is located by a side entrance. Coming off the street, you are offered a clean look of stainless steel handrail and curved glass balustrade.

The stairs were done with precast concrete and EeStairs installed the balustrade. EeStairs had to work with an existing elliptical curved opening, so by 3D scanning the opening and the staircases we were able to create a very accurate set of as-built drawings. These drawings were used to make the curved glass railings and handrails without a single template being used.

The laminated tempered curved glass railings are distinctive. The tight radius of the glass was difficult to work with, starting with the production through to the installation. A custom machined steel back and faceplate standoff was crafted to create a clean, simple detail that would not take away from the overall look of the curved glass railings and stainless steel handrails.

The installation was very challenging, since mounting the heavy curved glass panels in a working shopping mall and pedestrian zone was not a simple task. But the staircase came together beautifully, and EeCrew is proud to have been a part of this beautiful project!
