St Petersburg’s New Mariinsky Theatre

Internationally renowned staircase designer, EeStairs has worked alongside Diamond Schmitt Architects to design two outstanding staircases for St Petersburg’s New Mariinsky Theatre.

Located in the Russian city’s historic centre, across the Kryukov Canal from the original Mariinsky Theatre, the new theatre is a structure of contemporary architecture that pays homage to its setting.

EeStairs co-operated with Diamond Schmitt Architects as well as ten other individual construction professionals during the consultation process for the new 2000-seat theatre. A large straight staircase featuring frosted glass treads; a stainless steel handrail and glass balustrade provides access to the theatre’s multi-tiered lobbies. In addition, a dramatic helical staircase runs from the building’s second floor to its highest levels – heightening the sense of occasion in the public spaces.
