EeStairs + BABBET

The sensuality of these interior spaces is produced by natural light falling on white surfaces and edges – and most strikingly, on a boldly sculpted elliptical staircase. And so the balustrades and soffit had to be as perfectly smooth as the walls of the landing. As you can see, this was achieved, and our seamless EeSoffit™ played a key role, given the tight radial twist of the staircase.

The schematic renders, by Babbet, were passed to our in-house design-support team, who then developed the detailed design, which was passed to our stair fabrication specialists. The two-flight staircase presents interesting geometric shifts, such as the way the upper end of the soffit changes angle to meet the ceiling of the landing. And the way the simplified grid of the Art Deco-styled metal handrails on the landing switches to parallel lines on the stairs emphasises their curve beautifully.

There was another major challenge. Our in-house installation team were asked by the client to bring the staircases into the home in one-piece structures, and they achieved this by bringing the stairs in through an aperture with only a few millimetres to spare around the stairs. We also made and installed stairs and balustrades on an outdoor terrace.
