EeStairs + Bijsterbosch & Jacobs

Bijsterbosch & Jacobs Architects’ transformation of the historic Carré van Bloemendaal, Holland’s first psychiatric hospital in 1848, created 44 houses and apartments. And in one of the homes, two spiral staircases made and fitted by EeStairs demonstrate how old and new can come together elegantly in 19th century spaces.

The stairs were designed by a leading international interior designer, whose modernist settings often feature graphically refined perspectives and bold combinations of hard and soft fittings and surfaces. EeStairs also worked closely with the client and Jimmy Castien, project director for the builders, Zuiver Bouwgroep BV.

The staircases’ steel balustrades were precision-welded on site, with ultra-smooth EeSoffits which emphasise the curving geometry, and wooden steps that relate to the historic exposed timber in the main double-height space. EeStairs also made and fitted the extra-clear glass balcony balustrades.
