Office, Brussels [BE]

EeStairs + Shake Design & Build srl

This helical staircase links the 20th and 21st floors of a discreet high-rise workplace in Brussels, shaped by SHAKE Design & Build as a calm, precise interior. Its sculptural curve gives the office a soft centre of gravity, turning circulation into an architectural event.

EeStairs engineered a steel helix with 70mm-thick closed stringers and balustrades, all prepared with EeSoffit to receive a Mortex finish. The main challenge was structural: an early lower support load approached 2,100kg, above the existing concrete floor’s point-load limit. EeStairs worked with the structural engineer to stiffen the upper connection and add support at level 21, drawing load upwards and reducing the demand below.

The material strategy is deliberately exact. Powder-coated steel gives the stair its disciplined geometry; EPS-based EeSoffit provides a finely sanded substrate for Mortex, whose mineral surface softens the form without concealing its rigour. The wider first tread and 90-degree landing complete a piece of fluent, carefully governed craftsmanship.
