This feature spiral staircase is set within a finely detailed residential interior in Bayswater, London, where a compact entrance hall required a stair of exceptional spatial economy. Conceived as a single-flight spiral, it gives the historic setting a poised contemporary focus while drawing light through the circular opening between levels.

The design combines a mild-steel central pole and painted round steel balusters with dark oak treads, risers and a rounded timber handrail. The principal technical challenge was to make the 270-degree curved floor-edge balustrade, triangular landing and stair flight read as one continuous geometry. EeStairs resolved this through precise setting-out, mechanically fixed balusters to the tread ends, and on-site connections concealed wherever possible.

The craft lies in the quiet exactness of the material junctions. Oak was selected for its warmth, grain and structural depth; steel for its slender strength and visual restraint. Finished with lacquer and oil, the timber retains its natural character, giving the staircase a calm, enduring authority.
