DNA, Monaco [MC]

EeStairs + De Palatinat Interieur Design

The DNA staircase by EeStairs® is a sculptural feat of engineering and design, conceived by Senior Designer Geoffrey Packer. This extraordinary staircase transforms the familiar architectural element into a dynamic statement piece — its defining feature being a pair of helical steel tubes that mimic the elegant double helix structure of DNA.

This particular installation, in a private residence on the French Riviera, demonstrates the architectural clarity and precision with which EeStairs executes complex bespoke forms. The staircase rises through a circular opening beneath a skylight, its treads fabricated in laminated structural glass to maximise the transmission of natural light. The polished stainless steel structure reflects ambient tones and art, enhancing the stair’s presence as a luminous sculptural object.

The technical execution demanded absolute precision. Each tread is cantilevered from the helical tubes, requiring meticulous alignment and hidden fixings to preserve the visual purity of the design. The glass balustrades are seamlessly joined, and the entire form rests on a bespoke baseplate engineered to distribute load uniformly across the floor. The result is a staircase that is both structurally rigorous and conceptually striking — a rare synthesis of nature-inspired form and high-performance fabrication.
