Snellers, Groenekan [NL]
EeStairs + anjes Jesse ontwerp
In the serene residential setting of Groenekan, architect Anjes Jesse designed the Snellers residence with an emphasis on subtle material tactility and spatial tranquillity. Central to this vision is a straight-flight staircase that exemplifies EeStairs’ ability to achieve precise geometric clarity within a compact domestic volume. The staircase appears deceptively simple, yet it required rigorous coordination to ensure flawless alignment of the marble-clad treads and risers. One technical challenge was the integration of the marble finish with the load-bearing substructure—this was resolved by anchoring the stone with concealed mechanical fixings, allowing for minimal tolerances and a crisp junction with the surrounding plastered walls. The understated black handrail, mounted directly to the wall, provides a linear counterpoint to the pale stone, both functionally discreet and visually disciplined.
The defining characteristic of this staircase is the meticulous consistency of material and proportion. The honed marble was selected not only for its tonal harmony with the interior palette but also for its durability and clean edge profile—qualities that resonate with the precise, almost sculptural sensibility that defines EeStairs’ craftsmanship.
