The Brandt, Amsterdam [NL]

EeStairs + Tank Interior Design & Branding + ZZDP Architecten

At The Brandt, a six-storey redevelopment in Amsterdam’s city centre, a sculptural staircase unfurls with a deliberate ‘schwung’ from the reception desk to the upper levels. Designed by TANK Interior with ZZDP Architecten, it rises through a verdant atrium to a light-filled collaboration area.

The stair is built from precision-cut steel stringers, notched to hold carriers that support timber treads with closed risers. Each tread is a sandwich of engineered timber and side-pressed natural bamboo, topped with a subtle stainless steel anti-slip inlay.

What defines this staircase, beyond its sweeping form, is the coherence of its material language. Bamboo soffits curve beneath, wrapping the steel core in warmth. Powder-coated balustrades with slim vertical slats trace the line without interruption, while a suspended steel lighting ring, aligned with the geometry, casts a soft architectural glow. This is craftsmanship with a sense of theatre.
